Liver anatomy and function

Liver

The liver is referred to as the “biochemical laboratory” of the body. Here, we will discuss the management of liver tumors, some important points on the modern techniques for removal (resection) of parts of the liver (“hepatectomy”), the application of the most accurate diagnostic modality for liver tumors (“intraoperative ultrasonography”), radiofrequency ablation of unresectable tumors. However, disease processes that are not managed surgically, but with medication, (such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, cirrhosis) will not be discussed here.
